From 3 to 7 June 2026, the media art festival FMR 26 will transform the Linz Schlossberg into an art space — with more than 20 works by local and international artists, as well as lectures, talks, performances and concerts.
For the fourth time, the festival for art in digital contexts and public spaces is taking place in Linz. After previous editions at the Danube embankment (2019), around the Mühlkreisbahnhof (2021) and in the southern harbour area (2023), the Schlossberg will serve as the festival venue this time: the historic hill with its Schlosspark, Schlossmuseum, Rosengarten, Keplerwiese, Schlossbergstollen and Martinskirche will be transformed into a freely accessible art space spanning approximately 5 hectares.
Thematically, FMR 26 addresses four subject areas that are explored in both the exhibition and the accompanying programme: Digital Afterlife and Immortality, AI Societies, Power Structures, and Resistance, Future Archaeology and Digital Artifacts as well as Digital Deceleration, Isolation, and the New Idyll. The themes revolve around the tension between temporality and permanence in the digital age — in keeping with the festival title, which alludes to the Greek word “ephḗmeros” (“lasting only a day, transient, fleeting”).
More than 20 works from the fields of media art, digital art and internet art will be on show. The festival opens on Wednesday, 3 June 2026 at 6 pm with guided tours and an Opening Night featuring live and DJ sets from the field of experimental electronic music. Throughout the festival days, daily performances, guided tours with art mediators and artists, as well as lectures and talks on the festival themes will take place.
